Being Cool Isn’t Enough

Connecting is fun. We love to brag about our followers and friends but there has to be more to it than that.  Social connectivity, interactions and networks are very important and as we move forward they are going to play a bigger role in your success or failure in life. You all know that who you choose to surround yourself with is vital to your career therefore your bank roll. I often tell people that play time on social media is over. Employers use it to learn more about candidates and employees, police and lawyers use it to catch criminals. You’ve got to clean up your act on social media, its not about goofing off.

There’s scientific research to support that your environment plays a critical role in your lifestyle. Well, the same can be said for social activity. If using social networks to connect to your BFF’s and family is all you have, then that’s all you will ever have. It’s a shame that jobseekers can use Facebook but not LinkedIn.

I understand that social media is used primarily for friends and hooking up,  if we are to believe the movie “The Social Network” which is based on the origins of Facebook, it was created to meet chicks and get lucky. Social networking has morphed into more than a virtual black book. Remember there are b-b-billions being made on Facebook. And companies aren’t paying all that cash for nothing. Facebook’s stock maybe down but the advertising revenue is up and Facebook is even offering a promote feature, where you can pay to promote your post. How about that?

The new generations are comfortable with Ipads, IPhones, smartphones, tablets and other gadgets. They use them all the time, out at bars, parties, work, in the car, at church. ADD is on the rise for sure. There is so much content out there and so many things that can be accessed through mobile technology and social networks that it’s kind of scary. As a parent you may want your child to be innovative, tech savvy and cool but you could end up jeopardizing their interpersonal people skills.

The good thing about social media is also one of the worst things about it; it gives everyone on a voice.

Being cool is okay, I mean who doesn’t like to party with the cool kids. Seems the whole world wants to be entertained versus enlightened. Yeah, I get it but I like to connect with a purpose…I’m just different, I suppose.
